What can movies teach us about love and relationships?

Who would have thought that a frothy, silly romantic comedy or even a drama could actually teach a life-altering lesson?

Well, maybe not always life-altering, but certainly worth learning.

That’s what Leslie C. Halpern shares in 200 Love Lessons from the Movies: Staying Moonstruck for Life (Taylor Trade Publishing, August 2016).

Halpern gives an overview of each film, focuses on the elements that deliver the lesson, then clearly articulates the lesson and (in Love Language) explains how you can apply it to your own life and relationships.

The films and lessons are broken up into chapters that focus on various relationship stages and issues, such as that first meeting, gift-giving, conflicts, intimacy issues and more.

This is an entertaining read if you just want to check out the movie summaries and lessons. But to get the most out of this charming and unique book, you’ll want to read, ponder and act on the Love Language sections.

The filmography at the end of the book provides an alphabetical list of each film mentioned along with the primary lesson, chapter and page number. If you want to check out the lessons in some of your favorite films, this lets you do it quickly and easily.

It doesn’t matter whether you’ve seen the particular films or not. If you have, you’ll see how closely Halpern’s take on it meshes with yours. If you haven’t, you’ll still get the lesson—and after you do, you can decide if you want to see the movie.

In addition to being a valued addition to your own library, this book makes a great gift for movie fans, singles who are looking for love and couples who are open to ideas to keep their relationships strong.
