Eternal and Almighty God,
With heavy hearts, we come to You in prayer for Israel and for the victims of the unprovoked and unbelievably savage Hamas terror attack.
Most of us don’t understand all of the political, cultural, and other long-embedded intricacies of the Middle Eastern conflicts, but we know evil when we see it, and we have seen evil in action. With nowhere else to turn, we turn to You, Lord.
We know You’ve taken those who were killed into Your arms.
We pray for strength for the hostages, that they are able to resist their captors and survive until they can be rescued.
We pray for the families and loved ones of all the victims–those who were killed, those who were injured, those who have been taken hostage, and those whose fates remain unknown–that they find the comfort and strength they need to get through the difficult days ahead.
We pray for Israel’s leaders, military forces, and people as they defend their country.
We pray for peace.
And yes, Lord, as hard as it is, we pray for the perpetrators of these unspeakable acts.
Finally, dear God, we ask for Your guidance. We know You hear our prayers and we ask that You bless us with the wisdom to listen to and follow You.
We do this in the name of Your Son and our Savior, Jesus Christ.
Amen.
