Seriously, do you know what's in your wallet?

If your wallet was lost or stolen, would you know what was in it so you could promptly deal with it?

You may be able to quickly identify your primary credit cards and driver's license, but think about all the things we carry with us that we don't use often — other licenses, insurance cards, membership cards, even some credit cards — that could be misused by someone with nefarious intent. Can you list all of those items, along with account numbers and contact information so they could be quickly canceled and replaced?

Here's a great tip for protecting your information and accounts:

Once or twice a year, make a scan or photocopy of everything that's in your wallet (front and back). This gives you account numbers and customer service contact information all in one place. Date the copy and put it in a safe place or store an encrypted copy online.

If you ever need the information, you have a single document with everything you need that you can quickly address the situation.

A bonus benefit of doing this is that you're likely to clean out your wallet at the same time.
