Is the information on your LinkedIn profile up-to-date?
By Jacquelyn Lynn
Earlier today I was on LinkedIn sending a connection request and, after I hit “send,” got the usual list of people I might know and want to connect with.
Scanning the list, I did see some people I know and a number of others with whom I share connections, but here's what got my attention: Some of the names I recognized had job titles that I knew were out of date. I also saw a number of people who were listed as being employees of companies that have either changed names or are out of business. And I saw one person who died several years ago.
Social media is an important part of your overall content marketing strategy. It's one of the key ways your audience engages with you. Don't create a poor impression by the quality of the information in your social profiles. If your online reputation is important to you, protect it by making sure your social media profiles accurately reflect you and your company.
This is a good time to check all of your online profiles to make sure they are complete and current. Even better, review and update them for keywords, a strong call to action, and other elements that will make them work hard for you in 2014.
